As the cannabis edible game evolves, we’re discovering new cannabinoids, along with different ways to use the plant. An ingredient gaining popularity is live resin.
What is live resin?
Live resin is a cannabis concentrate extracted from freshly harvested cannabis plant material that's been flash-frozen (or fresh frozen). It’s considered live because it’s sourced directly from fresh frozen cannabis.
THC edibles that have live resin provide a more true-to-plant experience and a more “planty” taste. They mimic the feeling you get when you smoke cannabis, without having to smoke it. This is because it contains all the terpenes and minor cannabinoids present in flowers, meaning the effects and experience are almost identical to that of raw cannabis flower.
Terps for days
Terpenes are naturally occurring chemical compounds found in the cannabis plant. They’re responsible for the aromas and flavors of the plant, and are what make certain strains smell or taste different from others. The concentrated amount of terpenes in live resin boosts the effects of the cannabinoids in the plant, such as CBD, CBN or THC.
The entourage effect
A live resin edible may offer a more intense and powerful high due to its enhanced entourage effect - a theory that the full spectrum of the cannabis plant works best together. The entourage effect proposes that the interaction between all of the compounds from a cannabis plant, such as phytocannabinoids and terpenes, come together to enhance the overall effects. Because live resin concentrate is from the whole plant and includes a range of cannabinoids, it produces this full-spectrum, well-rounded effect.
